Owl's Song

has an awesome post on the nature of marriage this morning.

Marriage is, by its nature, two people in a relationship. TWO people. One cannot carry the burden for both, no matter how much they want the marriage to succeed. We cannot love enough, lead enough, or submit enough to make it happen.

I love it!

Thank you for the link! I am rejoicing in the comments (and emails) that I am reading. The Spirit of God seems to be using my little blog to help people get free! Praise be to God!

I posted this here because I couldn't get your comments to work on your other site (the comment box appeared, but I couldn't scroll sown to authenticate and didn't know your e-mail address):

Beowulf Post

Last year my kids focused on the use of black and white in Beowulf, which they then used to look at the ideas of good vs. evil.

They also liked looking at the meshing of pagan and Christian elements in the tale.

In my Mythology course I pushed them to compare/contrast Beowulf's story with the tale of Theseus (intellect as well as physical strength) and even Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back (going into the depths to face evil and using inner strength to overcome).

We also used the heroic cycle and looked at clips from the animated Beowulf.

Of course, as an entire class we couldn't do all of this, but I let the kids form groups based on interest; however, it all seemed to work out well.

I'd love to hear how you teach Beowulf to improve my own teaching. Good luck!
